Pianist Aljoša Jurinić presents a recital of phenomenal music and of exceptional interest in this Beethoven celebratory period. The great Romantic composers Schumann, Mendelssohn and Liszt had tremendous respect for this giant of 19th Century music. They contributed financially and musically to an actual "Beethoven Monument" which was built and is still standing to this day in Bonn, Germany, Beethoven’s birthplace. The large bronze statue of Ludwig van Beethoven was unveiled on 12 August 1845, in honour of the 75th anniversary of the composer's birth.
We look forward to welcoming Mr. Jurinić on-stage live in Tchaikovsky’s famed Concerto No.1 when Ontario Philharmonic makes its post-Covid return.  

For this concert in our 2021 Online Season during the ongoing pandemic, spectacular music by Mozart and Tchaikovsky are on the menu. Durham’s premiere solo pianist, Beatriz Boizan, performs Mozart’s gorgeous Piano Concerto No. 21 in a beautiful chamber music style, the orchestra being arranged for String Quintet by 19th century German composer Ignaz Lachner. We also present excerpts from an archival film recording of OP and Maestro Marco Parisotto in a thrilling performance of Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

Beethoven’s great triumphant symphony is given a very special shining light, arranged for piano by his friend & colleague, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, and given further enhancement using the string quintet by our Music Director, Marco Parisotto. It is a privilege to be able to perform this masterpiece in this exciting chamber ensemble version. From the First Violin chair, Etsuko Kimura leads the Ontario Philharmonic Chamber Players.
